10 Reasons Paper & Ink Will Always Be Better Than Any App or Device Ever Invented

I’m not a Luddite. I’m not even Luddesque.

I love the latest gadgets. I’ve agonized over whether to get a Remarkable 2 or stick with my iPad, I lust after the new Apple Watch, and barely resist buying an Oura ring to track…well, I don’t know exactly what to track, but it tracks, and it’s neat.

But when it comes to my daily planning and notes, in spite of all the apps and systems and devices I’ve tried, I keep coming back to one simple truth.

Nothing works as well as a notebook.

And I’ve got a simple listicle for you to explain why.

  1. Notebooks never need to recharge their batteries. When I opened my iPad this morning, it was dead. When I opened my notebook, it wasn’t. Case closed.
  2. Notebooks have automatic save. I don’t have to worry about whether the page is connected to the cloud, or if I have a setting set; the thing I wrote is there, and will be there when I come back to it. Speaking of which…
  3. Review and synthesis are built-in. The biggest problem with Zettelkasten and other digital note-taking systems is that people never come back to look at their notes later. But everything
