What is behind our compulsion to avoid the absence of things even when nothing is needed?
Thanks to , I know a new word today: kenophobia. It means “an abnormal fear of empty spaces.”
I’m not sure what qualifies as “abnormal”, but I know for a fact that I am one of the many humans who feels just a little uncomfortable with areas where there could be something but there’s not.
I think perhaps it’s related to my trouble with the concept of “enough”. I remember how uncomfortably called-out I felt when I heard Brené Brown speaking about it:
…there’s only one way out of scarcity and that is enoughness. At some point, we just need to say “enough”: I am enough. What I‘m doing is enough.
It’s about waking up in the morning and saying: “No matter what gets done and how much is done and how it’s done, I’m enough…”
