5 Things to Do Instead of Hugging When You Meet Someone.
“I’m a Hugger!” Is Not Cool Anymore — and probably never was.
Have you had that awkward moment in our socially distanced world of meeting someone for the first time and not knowing how to say hello?
The words still work well enough: Hi, how are you? Nice to meet you. What up? How’s it goin’? Dude! Hey, sis!
But the motions have become…weird.
Can’t shake hands anymore (who knows when they last washed those fingers?). Hugs? Nope, stay out of my personal biosphere, please. And that whole European kiss-kiss thing? Right. Out.
It’s getting to where you can date the time a documentary or tv show was produced by how the people in it greet each other. It also gives us the opportunity, like in so many other things — our habits, our homes, our work — to take a moment and re-consider the things that we might have taken for granted.
Like saying hi with a hug.
“Here, let me invade your personal space and press my body against you.”
I’ll admit right now that this is something of a hypocritical post, because I have been that guy.
