I hope that you've by now discovered the works of Kameron Hurley.

I wanted to write about women, but I found few to no examples of women having much of any type of story arc or line in these books, from Dune to Asimov’s Foundation. My choices were slavish acolyte, sex demon, innocent virgin, and I guess there were a couple of deadly crones scattered here and there.
