Is It Wrong to Write About Anything Except Ukraine Right Now?

At the time of this writing, there are men my age fighting in the streets against a Russian invasion.

That used to be my job.

Literally: I was trained to be a U.S. Marine infantryman in the late ‘80’s, before any of us knew the wall was about to fall. My skills were never needed, and I’m grateful for that, but there’s always that small doubt in my mind: would I have been good enough if faced with combat?

And now there are men and women who probably never wondered anything like that who have been handed an automatic weapon and a yellow armband and told, with frightening accuracy, “the Russians are coming. No one else is coming to help. You are the only ones who can fight.”

Meanwhile, here in America, I wrote about relieving the stress of overwork by using yoga instead of bingeing Netflix.

Why does that matter when fascism is rolling through…
