My 4-Part Remedy for Burn Out When Netflix Self-Care Just Isn’t Enough.
It was the end of a 12-day work week, and I was not doing well.
At about day 10, I was irritable, except when I was numb, stumbling through my day.
Self-care was a necessity, not an option. Putting it off was risking both failure at work and hurting people I cared about.
At 3pm on Wednesday I told everyone on slack I was taking the rest of the day off and I started “Operation Graycare.”
I went to work finding the things that would replenish my energy.
1. That thing I love: comics
I considered a long, meditative walk home. But that felt like work.
Galaxy comics was two blocks away and I hadn’t checked our pull-list in months.
My partner met me there, and we rescued two Harley Quinn’s, three Red Sonja’s, and a Blade of the Immortal omnibus. We drove home smiling.
2. The thing I need: yoga
My 10 minute morning yoga wasn’t enough. I needed to hack my cortisol and serotonin with some Emergency Yin Yoga — a 40-minute YouTube session.
