My 4-Part Remedy for Burn Out When Netflix Self-Care Just Isn’t Enough.

It was the end of a 12-day work week, and I was not doing well.

At about day 10, I was irritable, except when I was numb, stumbling through my day.

Self-care was a necessity, not an option. Putting it off was risking both failure at work and hurting people I cared about.

At 3pm on Wednesday I told everyone on slack I was taking the rest of the day off and I started “Operation Graycare.”

I went to work finding the things that would replenish my energy.

1. That thing I love: comics

I considered a long, meditative walk home. But that felt like work.

Galaxy comics was two blocks away and I hadn’t checked our pull-list in months.

My partner met me there, and we rescued two Harley Quinn’s, three Red Sonja’s, and a Blade of the Immortal omnibus. We drove home smiling.

2. The thing I need: yoga

My 10 minute morning yoga wasn’t enough. I needed to hack my cortisol and serotonin with some Emergency Yin Yoga — a 40-minute YouTube session.
