I’m torn between two loves.
Back in the early 2000’s I started doing “Morning Pages” — the Artist’s Way technique promoted by Julia Cameron. It was amazing — every morning I’d get up early, write longhand in a plain journal whatever was in my head. Three pages, no more, no less.
This kickstarted my writing habit and I’ve become an evangelist of the technique, a purist, even, feeling that it’s important that it be stream-of-conscious writing, using a pen and your hand, and that the good stuff really comes on page three.
At the same time, as you may have noticed, I’ve been writing daily articles here on Medium — also getting up early in the morning, and trying to keep it from being just stream-of-consciousness. It’s been rewarding both socially (thanks for the cards & letters, folks!) and monetarily. Most of all, I’ve been able to say that for 68 days I’ve produced an article every day of something I felt was worth saying.
