The Multiverse is Fun, But This is the Reality You Get
Nobody’s coming to whisk you away from this world.
I’ve fantasized about other versions of myself for as long as I can remember.
I loved books on time travel, where protagonists met their future selves. I loved the the evil goateed Spock from Terran Empire in Star Trek, and books where heroes traveled to different dimensions and alternate realities.
So it would be no surprise that I loved Everything Everywhere All At Once, the movie starring Michelle Yeoh as a woman coming into contact with all the people she might have been (and that’s something you get in the trailer, so no spoilers).
It is only the latest in a long line of alternate what if realities, ranging from historical (The Man in the High Castle) to personal (Sliding Doors) to silly (Time Bandits), but it seems to me that there are more and more of this kind of fiction out there, in almost every medium.
